Ring Engraving Price and Delivery Time
Ring engraving is a relatively affordable, yet highly meaningful addition to a piece of jewelry. The price is primarily determined by whether the work is done by machine or as traditional handicraft.

The inside of a ring typically accommodates about 30 characters, including spaces. A prominent diamond row or a narrow ring shank can limit space. We always provide an accurate price estimate for the work in-store!
Our goldsmith collects the jewelry from our store to their workshop, and the finished work is normally available for pickup within 3–5 business days.

Machine Engraving vs. Hand Engraving – Which to Choose?
At Kulta-Aika, you can choose either machine engraving or traditional hand engraving for your ring. Both have their advantages:
Machine Engraving: The most affordable and common method. A computer-controlled blade produces extremely precise, even, and flawless results. You can choose from a few different font options (most often block lettering or traditional script). It's perfectly suited for smooth, basic rings.
Hand Engraving: Highly valued goldsmith craftsmanship at its best. The goldsmith engraves the text freehand with an engraver (graver). The result is slightly deeper, more vibrant, and completely unique. Hand engraving is the only option for specially shaped, narrow, or heavily curved rings that a machine cannot accommodate.
Engraving on a ring – what is usually engraved?
Rings are by far the most frequently engraved pieces of jewelry. The most popular style is beautiful and classic script, but the choice is entirely yours.
Engagement Ring Engraving
Engagement rings traditionally feature the spouse's first name and the engagement date (e.g., Matti 14.2.2026). Both initials and the date (e.g., M & P 14.2.2026) are also very popular and elegant choices.
Wedding Ring Engraving
Wedding rings typically feature the couple's first names or initials separated by a heart or an ampersand, along with the wedding date itself (e.g., Matti <3 Pirjo 22.5.2026). It's advisable to have the wedding ring engraved well in advance, about 1–2 weeks before the wedding day, to ensure the ring is ready for the big day.

Ring engraving at Kulta-Aika costs approximately 15–30 euros. Precise machine engraving is a more affordable option (starting from 15 €), while individual and deeper hand engraving is a more valuable craft (starting from 30 €).
How long does ring engraving take?
The delivery time for engraving is typically 3–5 business days. Engravings are always done by a professional goldsmith in their own workshop to ensure the highest possible quality and durability.
Can an old engraving be removed from a ring?
Yes, in most cases, an old engraving can be removed. The goldsmith will sand away the engraving and polish the ring to look like new. This procedure costs starting from 20 euros. Please note that sanding slightly thins the ring shank, so a deep engraving cannot always be safely removed from very thin rings.
How many characters can a ring hold?
Generally, the inside of a ring can accommodate about 20 characters (including spaces). Limiting factors are the small size of the ring, the space taken up by hallmarks, and any diamond settings, under which engraving cannot be done.
