Seabirds soar across the sky, waves crash against the rocky village shore. A lone figure stands on a cliff with eyes closed, letting the wind whistle through her long hair. A rustle is heard, and the figure opens her eyes. The village elder has crept up beside her, now gazing out to sea with sky-grey eyes. Something sparkles in his hand. “The world is full of nameless ocean currents, dark forest paths, and silent caves,” the old man says. At the same time, he spins the ornament in his hand. The runes change. “When you need to ask for wisdom, ask the runes.”

The Northern Viking Jewelry® Wheel of Wisdom pendant is made of 316L steel. The ornament was designed by Johan Thorolf. The pendant functions as a two-sided piece of jewelry, with one side featuring the continuous diamond pattern characteristic of his work. A fine detail of the pendant is the rotating wheel of wisdom, which you can spin to different runes.

Johan Thorolf:
The young 14-year-old artist Johan Thorolf became interested in runes and Scandinavian history after visiting a Viking museum in Copenhagen at the age of six. By the age of eight, Johan had already mastered the runic alphabet. Around the same time, he carved his first runestones into Orivesi black slate. Johan Thorolf's carved runestones adorn Northern Viking Jewelry's sales points. He became interested in Finnish mythology a few years ago, an interest that led Johan to design his own interpretation of Ukonvasara3,5. In addition to designing and making runestones, Johan Thorolf has particularly delved into Finnish spiritual and divine mythology. He has designed a rune ring that functions as a two-sided piece of jewelry, with the back featuring the continuous diamond pattern characteristic of his work. Most recently, he designed the "Ferryman of Tuonela" pendant, where Tuonetar, the daughter of Tuoni, steers the ferry on the river of Tuonela, which Johan Thorolf interprets as the swan of the river of Tuonela.
