It is said that a mighty wolf dwells in these forests. The warrior knows this but continues his journey to the herbalist he knows lives on the edge of the bog. His guide is a black raven, his burden a leg injured in battle, and the weight of a dead man's trade goods: silk, spices, millstones, and walnut shells. Upon arriving at the herbalist's cottage, the warrior spreads the trade goods on the table. The woman's dark eyes gleam in the candlelight. She sees the necklace hanging on the man's chest. "I will cure your ailment, but I ask for that necklace as payment." The warrior hands the necklace from his neck to the herbalist. The woman caresses the necklace contentedly: "Fenrir. It is said he is chained in these woods. Even the gods fear him, and rightly so. Let's ask one-armed Tyr! The power of this necklace is great, for Fenrir's power is chained within it.

Vegvisir:
A ship adorned with powerful runes awaits in the cove. The sun has painted the sea surface orange. The air smells of sweat and tar, and beer flows in the leather wineskins, dampened by the sea air. The village goldsmith has once again toiled in his dark forge, and as a noisy group of Viking warriors boards the ship, the smith hands the warriors a Vegvisir, a rune compass. "If the stars and fish currents lead you astray, the Vegvisir will guide you through storms and perils. It knows your destination, even if you wander in the fog," he says.
